Hanoi’s Drinking Spots | Find The Best Places For Beers

Hanoi is an amazing city with plenty of fantastic bars to check out to wine and dine in. Vietnam has a quirky hospitality sector that rivals Thailand, its probably even better now. Hanoi also has a colonial past with French, Chinese, and Soviet cultural influences, making this city even more interesting and enjoyable!

If your looking to find the best bars in Hanoi you need to go to the old quarter, which gets a mixture of holidaymakers and expats. If you’re in Asia in general, especially Vietnam, you need to have a beer on the side of the road on a plastic chair. The first time you do this, it feels awkward but later becomes the norm, and its fun. A good reason to do this is the beer is cheaper than the bars, and you can find some fun drinking spots.

Another part of Hanoi is the more upmarket part around the lakes, like Westlake, for some excellent seafood restaurants and decent bars. You can find a lot of live performances from all kinds of music. It depends on what you like and whats going on? Be sure to know Hanoi caters to everyone and anyone!

Keep reading to find out what venues offer, how good the beer is, and how to save money in this beautiful city.

Bia Hoi Junction

As I mentioned before about the plastic chairs, this is the perfect place to start if it’s day one in Hanoi. The atmosphere is electric with people finishing work having a few drinks, or backpackers are tourists experience in the first night out in Hanoi.

If it’s been a long wait, this is your perfect place to sink a few beers with only $1.00 (VND10,000) beers available. You don’t need to spend the earth to have a good time! The bars have great beer, with bar snacks such as beef jerky, marinated pork on a stick, and other barbecued meats. It’s the type of place you can spend all evening and have a perfect time meeting new people. Again iBia Hoi Junction should be your first point of call in Hanoi

Binh Minh’s Jazz Club

I find jazz bars the best for dates and cocktails, having a relaxing vibe that is great on a Friday night. The performers are talented and have amazing performances, showing some of the best jazz players in Vietnam.

You normally pay a bit more for drinks with any live performances, which is fair enough as long you have a good time. You can expect to pay 65,000 VND ($2.80), which isn’t too bad for one of the best jazz bars in Vietnam.

 Kumquat Tree Speakeasy Bar

If your after something close to Hanoi’s culture, then this is the right place to go. The bar is pretty hidden and is down a tiny side street in Hoan kiem. The design has an old-school Vietnamese style with old Vietnamese furniture. The cocktails are outstanding and use fresh ingredients, which gives them their terrific taste. Again, it’s a bit more pricey, but this bar has a chilled vibe depending on your company.

Mad Botanist

The bar has a cozy setting, and it’s a gin bar with a fast selection of tonics and gins from around the world. The bar also has a funky little rooftop bar and a relaxing atmosphere on the lower floor, which sounds like the perfect gin bar for me. If your a gin lover like myself, it makes sense to visit the mad botanist at least once.

Factory 47

Factory 47 has a vibrant atmosphere, and is a great place for a few drinks. The bar attracts a lot of customers, from ex-pats to backpackers. With its rustic exterior, sofas, and pool tables, this bar equals fun. The best time to visit is to chill and relax as its just a fun vibe.

If you’re hungry, it gets better with top-notch burgers, with typical western bar food served here. The beer is ice cold, and you can get some pretty quirky cocktails here. The late license is another reason to visit, with a 12:PM till 2:AM opening time apart from Sundays (12am). This is a plus in Hanoi, as some bars do close early.

Ne Cocktail Bar

The best time to visit Ne Cocktail is the last drink of the night with lots of refreshing cocktails with fresh ingredients. Overall, the bar is busy and full of life from locals to tourists and for good reason as this bar is onnit.

If you are into cocktails, this bar is a must, with crowds of punters coming to this bar daily. Make sure you check out Ne – You won’t regret it!

1900 – Le Theatre

1900- Theatre is a hidden gem, with every local recommending this former theatre venue. The club’s location is on Hien Street and from the outside looks nothing special until you walk in, you notice the huge space inside.

The club looks like something straight out of the 1900s, which makes it unique and exciting. You can go in and stop for a few drinks, but from 11:00 PM, you get DJ sets on with the full works strobe lights, confetti, and smoke screens right up to the end of the night.

The club annually hosts special events from big DJ’s in Vietnam two celebrities attracting well over 500 guests. If you fancy a nightclub sort of a night, make sure you drop by here.

Polite & Co (Whisky Bar)

One of the most recognized pubs in Hanoi since 1995, with classical ambiance and a vibe from the 1920’s that gives an elegant feel. From top to bottom, the bar is wooden with some nice artwork hanging on the walls. The music is typically jazz which goes in contrast with those rainy season nights with a vibrant atmosphere.

A top drink to try in Polite is Khubani which is one of the most popular sellers. You also have a host of liquors imported from Europe and America. If your planning on visiting Polite, then the cocktails are sublime and are making this bar.

Another perk every Tuesday is gentleman night with buy one on whiskey and a 10% deduction on cigars.

Hi, I’m Ian

I started traveling in 2006 when I was 21 and still today it’s the best experience of my life! I grew up in a rural town in England and I couldn’t wait to get away and explore the big wide world.

My first destination in 2006 was Singapour. After I visited Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos the dream continued and every day was a new experience with new foods, temples, lush countryside, and quirky boutique hotels. The variance of my days was tremendous from waking up in Jungles to a tropical island sipping an ice-cold beer 24hrs later.

With all this travel experience I started traveltin to help people who want to take the plunge into travel and seek advice. I really want to help people live their dreams and share knowledge and tips to help you have the best trip possible.

If you need anything just ask! I’ll get straight back to you.
