How To Be Proactive On A Plane
Some of us spend a lot of time flying, whether its for business or pleasure. Why not be productive on flights instead of watching endless movies? These moments are a perfect time to study. You could get a University degree if you added up all the times you were flying, stuck in traffic, shopping, you could be listening to audiobooks. I’m, Ian and I will help you get yourself into action so you can achieve remarkable things that other people would not do.
One of the best things about living in the 21st century is that technology lets us work remotely and on the go. Mobile phones get better year by year, and we have new integration systems that give us tools so we can do our job anywhere. If you have goals, then you need to learn to manage your time and be productive anywhere. If you want a strong identity, this will put you at the front of the pack.
Flight time management and how to productive guide below
Pre- Flight Game
Pre-flight, you need to make sure your’re well-prepared. Your chargers are packed, laptops and phones are charged, and you planned in detail what you will do today, making you more productive and efficient.
If you find yourself traveling a lot, it’s worth paying a bit more and get extra data for a hotspot which usually doesn’t come cheap but is well worth it as airport wifi can be sketchy, plus you will always be online. Obviously, with hotspot, you can use it on many other transport options such as trains and buses, which adds to more productivity.
The next challenge is to stay productive, and just because you’ve got hotspot and you’re online doesn’t mean you’re going to complete a lot of tasks as airports can be chaotic and busy. You need to make a detailed plan on precisely what you’re going to work on and a rough time frame to complete your tasks.
You need to be realistic in your time frame. If you have two hours before the flight, you probably have about an hour and a half of work time. So make sure you’ve got all materials downloaded and tools at the ready. As I said before, you need a detailed plan, or you’ll find time will fly by and be wasted.
Where To Work At The Airport
So now comes the question of where you are going to set base up at the airport.
If you’re lucky the most luxurious place would be a Sky lounge, but that will come at a heavy price, or if you’re fortunate, you can find some good flight companies who do air miles (Look out for these, they make the difference) A yearly payment for these membership lounges you’re looking at $400 or a one-off fee of $50, but again if you travel a lot, they are worth their weight in gold as airports can be tiring.
The Sky lounge’s perks are the food, beverages, decent wifi, and a relaxing quiet atmosphere that is perfect for working in and maximizing your productivity.
Before you visit an airport, do your research and find the best places for coffee, food, and wifi. This will help you save time, and you’ll know exactly where you’re going to go when you get to the airport.
Plan Your Flight In Detail
The key to being productive is planning ahead and making sure you put yourself first and not others. You need to say no sometimes; if you’re going to be productive, which can be tricky.
Plan precisely what type of work you will be doing and give yourself a time frame for each task. I always find myself working one hour, and having a 10-minute break helps me be more productive. Find what works out for you and stick to that plan.
As a backup on the plane is the wifi stops working, make sure you have important files downloaded to work offline.
If you start to have issues with your laptop, maybe you don’t have enough space, or it’s just not convenient to start using your phone. Most phones have Word mobile, for instance, so you can carry on working on your phone.
Remember if you are getting hassled, remember the power of saying no but be polite, push on, and be disciplined.
Carry A Notebook For Flights
If you fly alot, I always find the notebook is convenient and just so personable and easy to carry. Notebooks were designed for drawing, but you can use it for anything, and its a good gadget that’s affordable.
One of the advantages of a Chrome notebook is the desktop is like a Chrome browser with quick options to Gmail, Google Docs, and YouTube. Gain quick access to wifi, Bluetooth, and volume settings on the right-hand corner’s status bar.
The notebook itself is incredibly light compared to windows or Macs laptops and pretty snappy overall. It also updates itself a lot quicker than a Mac or a Windows Update. The Chromebook also offers minimal effort and is a fast, light system that is a dream for travel.
Keep On Top Of Your Diet
It can be challenging when you’re traveling to get the right type of meals you usually enjoy. Sometimes the food can be pretty heavy and not healthy, which can leave you tired. If you eat many processed carbs, gluten, and sugary foods, you’ll feel tired as your intestines work a lot to digest food.
If you’ve got a busy day, try and eat some light food with some protein and stay away from pasta, rice, and sugary foods, which will slow you down (You should be eating healthy anyway)
If you’re going to Sky lounge, the food quality is generally excellent, so I would advise just eating protein and vegetables before the flight. This will give you the energy you need to plow through your work and reach your goals. If you need to niche down on your food, most restaurants modify meals for you.

Do Some Light Exercise
If you’re working hard, you need attention to detail, and working while you’re stressed doesn’t help.
While you’re waiting, you should walk around the terminal and take the stairs instead of the elevator. If you have a steps counter, you should set some goals while your’re traveling.
On the flight, make sure you take time to walk up and down the aisles and do some stretches during the journey. If you fly a lot, you should always exercise to avoid Varicose veins.
The moral of the story is you should be exercising and stretching if your’re sat down all day.
Get To Work And Build Momentum
When you first sit down on the plane, you should put some music on to chill you out and block out all other distractions.
As soon the plane reaches cruise level, you should begin work, and after 10 minutes, you generally start to flow. Try and build a routine so every time you’re on a flight, you get straight into your work instead of watching the entertainment system.
You want to spend some time choosing songs that get you in the work mood and keeps you nice and focused, so you’re ready to be productive.
The real winners in life use out every moment to be productive, so when people say there’s no time, you make time.
Use This Time To Do Lower Tasks
If you are struggling to get your main tasks done, then maybe look at the lower-skill tasks.
This is an excellent time to sort out your inbox or read notes about your future projects at work. Make the most of this time as you can use it to be productive and be ahead of the game.
Set A Few Goals
Make sure you write down your goals before the start of the flight. What do you want to complete in this time frame, and which is the most critical task.
Part of your list by most until important task at the top with a deadline of when the task should be complete.
What do you want to accomplish by the end of the flight? When you make your itinerary and book all your travel, also make a list of the tasks you want to complete before you land and check them off as you go. And do the most important item first.
Stay Hydrated
Keeping yourself hydrated will make you more productive and give you more energy to focus on your jobs. Before you board a plane, I always try and drink at least a liter and a half of distilled water which helps me be more productive.
Take Breaks
Long Storey short, you can’t work non-stop. It would help if you took breaks to be most effective and switched on.
If you carry on working too much, you can get stressed and lose your concentration levels, and you end up making mistakes. You should be doing something productive, taking breaks, like meditation or soduku, or have a diary write a few things about your day.
You’re a human, not a machine, so learn how to balance both work and breaks.
Don’t Drink Alcohol
When you’re flying you are less hydrated, so adding alcohol to your system makes you dehydrated and sluggish, even if it’s just one glass of wine.
Also, stay away from sugary drinks. You want to be drinking water. This will keep you more focused and productive.
Stay Away From The Window Seat
If you’re planning on working on the flight, sit in the chair closest to the aisle, so you can just get up if you need a bathroom break. Also, you have less chance of being distracted and losing focus.
