Phnom Penh’s Best Bar Reviews | A Current Guide Here!

Phnom Penh has a special place in my heart and is a city with a soul with many great places bars for drinking. I’ve had some crazy nights in Phnom Penh, but I’ve also found some great bars that surprised me with their level of confidence and quality of product. Phnom Penh belongs in its own lane from Bangkok & Ho Chi Minh, and rightly so as it’s a special place with a rawness & edginess about it. If your heading to this city, all I can say is buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Phnom Penh has amazing nightlife and some of the dodgiest bars going, but I promise all have their perks. The bars I’m listening are all trendy and safe with cocktails, good wine, great beer, and tasty food.

In the last few years, the city has come alive with new investments from people who know what their doing. But you still have those classical rock bars that stink of hops and cigarette ash for all you boozers out their! I was impressed with the excellent tap bars, skybars, and sports bars with multi TV’s showing sport all day. Either way, your going to have an awesome time, I promise.

As I said, the majority of the bars on this list are classy. I was letting you know PP has two sides to its coin. Below is the best bar guide!

Elephant Bar

Elephant bar is somewhat of a diamond in Phnom Penh,  with the Royals and the elites of Cambodian society visiting regularly. It’s the type of place you go for an afternoon tea and tapas with some high-quality dishes.

With over 30 gins and a  happy hour every day from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Elephant bar attracts every Tom, Dick, and Harry, so don’t be surprised if you save your famous faces when you arrive here.

SORA Skybar

Having lived near the Royal Palace in a penthouse, I can vouch for how beautiful this city is at night. The rosewood hotel has a bar on the 39th floor with a 5-star service and a fantastic view of the capital. The view is 360 degrees, and you can see past Phnom Penh, which is pretty cool. Another wonderful reason to visit is the opening times. You can watch the sun-rise & sun-set, so if you have an Instagram account, get there early for some world-class pics.

Red Bar

An excellent place to have a few drinks and another popular venue for the wealthy of Phnom Penh with $1 beers and reasonably priced cocktails. If your hungry, then you also have a fabulous selection of restaurants to choose from on St-308 where you buy a takeaway and eat it in the bar. Its a cheap night out for such a great place!

Metro Hassakan

Chi Chi on riverside is a hip, trendy cocktail bar and restaurant serving Asian tapas with great wines. The bar is chic and attracts a bit of a niche crowd, from ex-pats to successful locals who come for generous drink sizes. The bar’s second location on street 214 serves even better food, apparently. So try both and make your mind up.

Cadillac Bar & Manhattan Lounge

Cadilac has music from the 1960’s which separates this bar from others in Phnom Penh and gives it more of a unique feel. By the way, the food is incredible with Texas Chilli, Potpie, meatloaf, gumbo, roast beef, lasagna, and burgers. But they also make a cracking all-day breakfast which, as a Brit I love! You can get amazing cocktails here with a great Moijto and a few decent IPA’s to inspect while you decide the best place to go next? Don’t miss this bar!

Phnom Penh Nightlife

Candy Bar

A great bar with top quality service and a 100 cute hostesses thats open 24hrs a day. The music is mostly hip-hop and can be defining, so be warned!

Every Saturday, the bar has a DJ which gets pretty pumping. The bar is air-conditioned and has live sports showing the EPL and La Liga regularly. The food is also decent with a western-style like pizzas, burgers, English breakfast, and a few Asian dishes. I highly recommend giving Candy bar a visit!.

Eclipse Sky Bar

The highest bar in Phnom Penh has to be one the best bars in Asia, in my eyes. The bar has a 360-degree view of the city and is ideal for sun-sets and sun-rises for those Instagram snaps. Obviously, try and visit in the dry season because the wet season can get hairy with flash floods and lightning.

The bar is usually open 24 hours a day, but sometimes, in the offseason can change its opening times.

Live music and a happy hour between 5:00pm and 7:00pm with the 30% drink decrease on certain products is a daily occurrence which is cool. I think you expect to pay a little more on a rooftop bar, but they are worth it for me. Eclipse bar is a must- don’t miss out!

Pontoon

In my experience, Pontoon usually happens after few pints in a sports bar or a local pub nearby. Street 172 gets busy with bars, restaurants, and sorya mall close by, which can get a little bit ropy with drug addicts and prostitution.

The music is hip hop and electronic music that isn’t the best, but it’s all good after a few drinks. I found the prices a bit expensive, with a few working girls trying to earn some freelancer money. Again it’s not the best nightclub in the world it’s just a late-night drinking hole with drunk people trying to pull. The punters are mainly backpackers, a few tourists, and locals, but I’ve seen people in their 50s dancing the night away, so don’t its only for young people. You have to experience Pontoon at least once in your life LOL!

Hi, I’m Ian

I started traveling in 2006 when I was 21 and still today it’s the best experience of my life! I grew up in a rural town in England and I couldn’t wait to get away and explore the big wide world.

My first destination in 2006 was Singapour. After I visited Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos the dream continued and every day was a new experience with new foods, temples, lush countryside, and quirky boutique hotels. The variance of my days was tremendous from waking up in Jungles to a tropical island sipping an ice-cold beer 24hrs later.

With all this travel experience I started traveltin to help people who want to take the plunge into travel and seek advice. I really want to help people live their dreams and share knowledge and tips to help you have the best trip possible.

If you need anything just ask! I’ll get straight back to you.
