The Best Events To Go In Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan has the best events in Asia, with the full moon party being one of the biggest raves in the world. I’ve been to this island countless times, and I always look forward to going back as it seems to have a lot going on, and it’s a tropical paradise.

I’m not going to lie, but most events on this list will be parties as this island is the party capital of Asia. But you get a spiritual side with meditation camps on the island, which is a total contrast from what the island is known for. But whatever you decide to do on this island, there’s plenty of activities such as the full moon party, half moon, Waterfall party, meditation events, Yoga courses, Orion healing, Samma Kurna etc..

With Koh Phangan you should never judge a book by its cover as the island has two parallels- party and relaxation. Every time I’ve been here its been a blast with loads of things going on! Welcome to paradise, guys!

Full Moon Party

I think we have to start with the biggest party in Asia, the full moon party, which started way back in 1983 and is now firmly cemented on the map. If you’re a backpacker, this is a must-go on your list

When the full moon party is in full swing, the whole island accommodates this festival with bars and hotels doing some promotion for the full moon party. I remember drinking SangSom buckets until I nearly passed out for as little as 180 BAHT. But the next day, my head was utterly banging with all the sugar so try not to drink these buckets all night.

If you’re young, the full moon party must be at the top of your bucket list in Asia as its an experience and a half.

Half Moon

The Half Moon Party is a miniature size version of the back of the full moon party. But what I can say is the Half Moon party, in my eyes, is better than the full moon party with a slicker vibe and better music.

The Half Moon party has fewer people, and is not as fast-paced. You notice at the party you’re surrounded by a jungle which makes it more interesting than the beach. Something different from the full moon is the private areas for $45.00 I’ve not personally used them, so check before you buy.

You notice fewer idiots here. Everything feels a bit more organized with a better selection of music with three stages with house to hip hop catering to more of a genre of music variety.

The half-moon party is located in the center of the island, and the dates are the followin (Halted now due to Corona)

April 5th and 19th

May 5th and 19th

June 4th and 17th

July 2nd and 17th

August 1st, 16th and 31st

September 14th and 29th

October 14th and 29th

November 12th and 27th

December 2th and 27th

Jungle Experience

The Jungle experience is more of a vibe than the half and full moon party, with a sense of spirituality with loads of UV lighting, fire throwers, drummers, and performances around the venue.

The jungle experience takes place in a forest space with a dance floor overlooking the mountains. The music is deep house and some techno giving it a more edge turn than other raves. I think most people would prefer this type of music than the full moon party, which is generic blabbering

If you like raves, you’ll find this is less commercial than the full moon party and more enjoyable with better music.

Black Moon

When the moon is completely hidden, you get the dark moon which provides you with no light and can be a little bit ere. Some people say the black moon is the full moon parties evil side and having been to this event, I agree  LOL!

You can find the party at Baan Tai beach and is only 10 minutes from Haad Rin, with the dance floor a 10-minute walk from Baan Tai 7/11

If you like psychedelics, this party will suit you as you will see people tripped off their faces walking around like zombies talking complete nonsense. That’s not to say it’s not good and you don’t have to do that, but its their if you want it?

The party is a full-on experience on the proper trance dance event with fewer people in the full moon party, and Half Moon is worth checking out.

Waterfall Party

The waterfall party overlaps the full moon with events two days before or a couple of days after, making this an exciting party where your either be up for it or slightly hungover.

The event is located in Ban Kai jungle, with the waterfall itself is looking cool and goes hand in hand with the event.

If you’re going to the event, you need some good transport don’t take a motorbike their. I advise on getting the taxi with your ticket, and you get a free drink (600 Baht)

The surrounding of the event is a beautiful River with a psychedelic feel and techno, electronic music. One plus for all the travelers going to the waterful, the audience are less trippy, attracting a middle-aged man like myself a bit more. All in all this is the one party I want to go to next!

Orion Healing

Orion healing is something called a Lomi Lomi massage, an ancient Polynesian bodywork practice and considered medicine. The healing is done through practical and spiritual elements of prayer and breathwork, which creates energy and heels for both mental and physical issues.

As the massage starts you notice a continuous flow of strokes which help push energy around your body which relaxes the whole body. The exercise lets go of negative thought patterns and memories that have perhaps scared your mind.

If you come to Koh Phangan for some R&R for nourishment, then a Lomi message must be added to the list.

Hi, I’m Ian

I started traveling in 2006 when I was 21 and still today it’s the best experience of my life! I grew up in a rural town in England and I couldn’t wait to get away and explore the big wide world.

My first destination in 2006 was Singapour. After I visited Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos the dream continued and every day was a new experience with new foods, temples, lush countryside, and quirky boutique hotels. The variance of my days was tremendous from waking up in Jungles to a tropical island sipping an ice-cold beer 24hrs later.

With all this travel experience I started traveltin to help people who want to take the plunge into travel and seek advice. I really want to help people live their dreams and share knowledge and tips to help you have the best trip possible.

If you need anything just ask! I’ll get straight back to you.
